Beekeeping in Levant Region

Beekeeping has been practiced for thousands of years, and by 1500 B.C., it was widespread in the Levant region. The practice was so important for the local economies that in the Hittite laws, the penalties for stealing a swarm of bees or an empty hive were about the same as the fine for stealing a sheep.
