Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey was first assigned to play Marty Hart in the first season of True Detective. McConaughey however requested to switch his role to Rust Cohle due to the character's obsessive tendencies. McConaughey then created a 450-page analysis of Cohle to study the character's evolution in the series.
