Sykes-Picot Agreement

The Sykes-Picot Agreement was a secret pact which was signed between the United Kingdom and France in 1916. With assent from Russia and Italy, the pact defined their mutually agreed spheres of influence and control in an eventual partition of the Ottoman Empire after WW1. This pact also created the countries of Syria and Iraq.
