Ocean Names Origin

The Pacific Ocean gets its name from Ferdinand Magellan, who called it Mar Pacifico in Portuguese, meaning "Peaceful Sea." The Atlantic Ocean is named after Atlas, the Greek mythological titan who held the world on his shoulders.
