Diogenes syndrome, also known as senile squalor syndrome, is a disorder characterized by extreme self-neglect. The name derives from Diogenes of Sinope, an ancient Greek philosopher, a Cynic, and an ultimate minimalist, who allegedly lived in a large jar in Athens.
