A cause of red meat allergy was discovered when some of the recipients of the cancer drug Cetuximab fell gravely ill. Cetuximab contains a red meat protein derived from mice. Of those who fell ill, 94.6% confirmed they had experienced tick bites while in an area populated by the Lone Star tick.
