The Peshtigo Fire, the worst wildfire in history, lasted only two hours but killed ~2,500 people across Wisconsin and Michigan. The reason the fire is forgotten in the history books is it took place on the same day as the Great Chicago Fire, Great Michigan Fire, and Port Huron Fire.
