Boroda

The director of the Soviet atom bomb program, Igor Kurchatov swore he wouldn't cut his beard until the program succeeded. After the program's success, he continued to wear a large beard (often cut into eccentric styles) for the rest of his life, earning him the nickname 'Boroda' (“The Beard”).
