A woman named Margaret Corbin fought in the American Revolutionary War. During the Battle of Fort Washington, when her husband fell in action, she took control of the cannon and fired well-aimed shots at the enemy before being seriously wounded. She later became the first woman in U.S. history to receive a pension from Congress for military service.
