Salem Poor

Salem Poor (1747–1802) was an African-American man who purchased his own freedom, became a soldier, and rose to fame as a war hero during the American Revolutionary War. He fought at Bunker Hill and was praised by 14 officers as “a Brave and gallant Soldier.”
