The development of infection from coronavirus can lead to severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, septic shock, and death. Patients who reported no pre-existing medical conditions had a case fatality rate of less than 1%. Therefore 99% of the patients who died after contracting coronavirus had pre-existing illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, hypertension, cancer, etc.
