During the first meeting between Lecter and Starling, Anthony Hopkins’ mocking of Jodie Foster’s southern accent was improvised on the spot. Foster’s horrified reaction was genuine. as she felt personally attacked. She later thanked Hopkins for generating such an honest reaction.
