Peter Conover Hains

Major General Peter Conover Hains is believed to be the only person to have served in both the American Civil War and World War 1. He retired at the mandatory retirement at the age of 64 but was recalled to active duty out of retirement at the age of 77 in 1917 to serve in World War 1 as an engineer.
