Napoleon Bonaparte died in exile on the remote island of St Helena in 1821 and his last words were recorded as "France, armée, tête d'armée, Joséphine" (France, army, head of the army, Joséphine). He was probably delirious and simply summed up his three loves, his country, his exploits at the head of his army and his first wife.
