Clint Malarchuk

In 1989, during a live broadcast an ice hockey game, NHL goalie Clint Malarchuk’s carotid artery was severed by another player’s skate. The sight of blood gushing out of his neck caused 11 fans to faint, 2 suffered heart attacks, and 3 players to vomit on the ice. The team's athletic trainer, who was a former army medic and Vietnam veteran, saved him on the ice by reaching into his neck and pinching off the artery until medical help could arrive.
