Color blind people tend to have better night vision and can sometimes see luminosity of colors that normal-sighted people can't. With this ability, and the fact that they perceptive colors differently, the U.S. Army discovered that the colorblind could see 'camouflage' colors that are hard to see with normal color vision. This gives them the unique ability to see hidden enemies better at night.


2. Crayola’s “Flesh” color was renamed Peach in 1962, reflecting the fact that flesh comes in many different colors. It was considered racist to imply that flesh is or should be of that color.


3. The color orange is named after the appearance of the ripe orange fruit. Before this word was introduced to the English-speaking world, the color orange was referred to as Geoluhread meaning reddish orange.

Germany’s racing color is silver because, in 1934, one of their cars was barely overweight, so they just scrapped the paint off leaving the silver body. The car won and the color stuck.


7. The Sun is actually white. When viewed from space or a high altitude, it appears in its true color of white. When viewed from a low altitude, atmospheric rendering makes it appear to be yellowish.

  2. Re #94: The Honolulu Police Department is not the only agency which does that. In both South Korea and China, the police, the fire department, and ambulances will all have their emergency (“dome lights”/”cherries”) activated while the cops/firefighters/EMTs in the vehicle are on duty.
