After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was under Martial Law. The government fingerprinted residents, imposed blackouts & curfews, rationed food & gasoline, censored the news and media, censored all mail, and prohibited alcohol. Violations meant punishment without appeal by military tribunals.
